What changed: Rewritten for the free pilot: OpenSpot Local takes no payments, and fees are settled between host and vendor.
Refunds and cancellations
The short version. OpenSpot Local is free during our pilot and never handles payments, so there's nothing for us to refund. If a host charges a fee, it's settled directly between the two of you, off the platform, and so are any refunds. The defaults below are what we expect when nothing else was agreed.
What costs money
- Listing a space, sending a request and joining as a vendor are free. There are no subscriptions, no commissions, no hidden fees and nothing that renews.
- A host may set a fee: a flat daily amount or a share of sales. It's shown on the listing and on the request form before you send anything.
- That fee is settled directly between the host and the vendor, off the platform. OpenSpot Local doesn't send invoices, take payment details, or track whether a fee was paid.
Cancellations
Unless the host's listing or your own written agreement says otherwise:
- With at least 24 hours' notice before the start time, either the host or the vendor can cancel a confirmed booking without penalty. Any fee already paid goes back in full.
- With less than 24 hours' notice, or a no-show, the booking is recorded as a late cancellation. If the vendor canceled late, the host may keep a flat daily fee. A share of sales is owed only on sales actually made. If the host canceled late, the vendor gets back anything they paid.
- Weather Canceled: if severe weather hits or an outdoor spot is rained out, either side can mark the booking Weather Canceled any time before the shift starts. There's no penalty on either side and any fee is returned.
- A declined request was never a booking, so nothing is owed.
Both sides do all of this from the status page linked in our emails. There's nothing to call and no form to fill in. We keep the record of who canceled and when; we don't decide disputes about it.
If something goes wrong
Talk to each other first. If that doesn't settle it, email [email protected] and we'll help you sort it out. We can't move money between you, but we can remove a listing or profile that breaks our terms.
If we ever charge for something
If OpenSpot Local starts charging for anything, the price and any renewal will be shown clearly before you agree to it, and this page will say how refunds work before the first charge.
